If I've never played a Metal Gear Solid game, is Ground Zeroes a good start?

I've never played one, would this one be ok to start with? I'm sure there might be some story stuff I don't know about . . but I'm ok with that. It's only like 10 bucks at Gamestop so should I go for it or not?

MGS3 is the best one imho. Haven't played GZ, though.

Play them in the order they were released. Playing any other way is silly.

If you don't want to do that: screw it, jump in anywhere. You'll just miss a lot of perspective and story related stuff.

Play em in order. You're gonna miss out on too much story and won't like it. My buddy tried to start with MGS 4 against my advice and he hated it.

Console wars are silly. Just enjoy the games! Try owning multiple systems, its enlightening.

As everyone said. Advisable to play in order or at least start with 3 although if you do that it will be harder to play 1 and 2 due to it being a bit outdated.

Buy the MGS legacy collection on the ps3 and play them in release order. There's tons of story in these games and they're all intricately connected.

If you don't want to play them, at least watch the "movie" versions on youtube. The story is long and complicated.

this realy inst the series to start in the middle (as far as the timeline is concerned).
Currently playing: Divinity Original Sin - Sniper Elite III - Shovel Knight

It would lightly introduce you to the series, but much more realistically, you should just buy the MGS HD Collection for Xbox 360 or PS3 (or the PS3 MGS Legacy collection, but that's rather uncommon).

The best game to start with has gotta be MGS3.
