Suppose Sony had to do something stupid with PS4 sometime.

With the PS Now beta live, real people in the real world are getting to see how much it costs to stream games from Sony. The result isn’t exactly pretty.

This Kotaku article outlines some of the US prices for 90-day rentals for old PS3 games on PS4. Check this out.

F1 2013 – $49.99.
NASCAR 14 – $39.99
Dirt 3 – $26.99
Grid 2 – $22.99
Deus Ex: Revolution – $29.99
Metal Gear Solid 4 – $14.99
But it’s OK! Because, as that article notes, Sony’s going to introduce $1.99 rentals as the result of so many people telling them these prices are utterly insane.

PS Now allows you to buy games for time periods and play them by streaming. You don’t have to pay for 90 days’ worth of access. You can, for example, rent Deus Ex for four hours for $4.99. Because you’ll all do that.

looking at the story i did a quick search on google for prices on Deus Ex: Revolution and amazon has it for 6.88 used and 15 new.....i can not imagine more then 5 people ever using this service unless they add brand new games and people on the fence want to rent for a few hours to see if they like it enough for purchase

Will they be adding more games?
How long is the open beta?

I'm inclined to participate and offer feedback if games I'm interested in are offered. As it stands, I just looked at the list on PS4 and I don't want to play any of those games.

The word beta isn't a "get out of jail free" card for being ripped off currently.

Nobody's being ripped off. Don't like 4 hour and 90 day options? Use the other ones, which are fairly priced
You get ripped off if you choose so yourself
But then everyone who buys Destiny is being ripped off so I guess people will just do it anyway. Maybe they like it

In fact, why are they charging for the beta?

Because it costs money to stream the games?
And because price assessment is part of the beta's purpose?
