"the console war is always won by the system that’s most technically powerful."

LMFAO what a load of bull****. XBOX and Game Cube was both more powerful then Playstation 2, yet Playstation 2 whipped the floor with those two consoles.

And while we'd all hate to admit it, the Nintendo Wii last I heard sold more then XBOX 360 and Playstation 3 this generation.

If anything, it's the underdog that pulls out the win.

Dreamcast was weaker than the PS2.

Alright, PS2 was the second weakest. Point still stands, it was by no way the most technically powerful, yet nothing could touch it.

It's all give and take.

Personally, I prefer the 8 GB of RAM in the next Xbox to the VERY limiting 4 GB in the PS4. That strikes me as more important than 1.2 terraflops vs 1.8 terraflops. I guess time will tell.

Unfortunately I have the bad feeling that third party developers will make "baseline" games that are dumbed down to the bottomline stats of both machines. That means the extra memory in the next xbox will be as ignored as the extra processing power in the PS4. Boo.

“On this platform I’d be concerned with memory bandwidth. Only DDR3 for system/GPU memory pared with 32MB of “ESRAM” sounds troubling. 32MB of ESRAM is only really enough to do forward shading with MSAA using only 32-bits/pixel color with 2xMSAA at 1080p or 4xMSAA at 720p. Anything else to ESRAM would require tiling and resolves like on the Xbox360 (which would likely be a DMA copy on 720) or attempting to use the slow DDR3 as a render target.

I’d bet most titles attempting deferred shading will be stuck at 720p with only poor post process AA (like FXAA). If this GPU is pre-GCN with a serious performance gap to PS4, then this next Xbox will act like a boat anchor, dragging down the min-spec target for cross-platform next-generation games.”

just like the PS3 was supposed to be more powerful than the 360

perhaps it is but the cell processor was so hard to code for, most games were developed for the 360 and ported over to the PS3...and ports never do better than the original.
