It was said Wii U was the new Dreamcast...Xbox One will claim that fate instead

I'm very confident the Wii U, and Nintendo, will be fine. Wii U has no intrinsic anti-consumer elements, its focus is 95% on games, and the games that will move systems are on the way. I don't expect Wii or PS2 levels of success, but Wii U will have a comfortable lifespan.

Xbox One? DOOMED. I hardly feel the need to detail the hurdles it faces, but here are some of its major obstacles,

-Little if any appeal outside the US. Microsoft has decided to purely focus on one market, and poorly at that. The Xbox One panders so specifically to the US and has so many elements which are combative and unpopular to other markets, it's almost sure to fail in many/most of them.

-There is a whirlwind to be reaped from the anti-consumer elements. We have reacted, we know the situation, but normal people are in for a nasty surprise. There is an inevitable backlash simmering, just wait until we hear the local news stories after Christmas from angry parents.

-Competition from every angle. Why choose Xbox One over Wii U/PS4/PS3/360/3DS/PC/IOS? Heck, even DS/Wii/Vita are competition for Xbox One. Microsoft seems to mistakenly believe their place in the market is a forgone conclusion that they don't need to earn.

So, I truly believe we are witnessing the beginning of the end for Microsoft in the console market. Microsoft as a whole will be fine, but I cannot see the Xbox One finding any measurement of success. It will hobble along for a few years, until Microsoft pulls the plug and cuts the cancerous growth from themselves, the Xbox division. The Xbox One cannot afford to appeal to only a niche, there is far, far too much monetary investment that needs to be recouped.

I never felt 3DS, Vita, or Wii U would suffer a Dreamcast like fate. But Xbox One? I'm all but certain it is doomed to fail and cease production within a few years of launch, and I doubt Microsoft can monetarily justify trying their hand at the console business again once that happens.

Dreamcast was actually pretty awesome, don't sully its memory comparing it to this... thing.

The writing was on the wall with Bioware the minute you could completely void all of your decisions with one choice in KOTOR.

It's an event hosted in the US, and Madden/COD sell greatly in the US market, what did you expect? Do you expect publishers not to show FIFA games in European game shows and JRPGs in Japanese ones?

Sorry, precents say other wise. People said the same things about Steam and ITunes, which since died down once people learnt to stop getting butthurt.

Because there are "normal" people out there who likes convergeance and have all their entertainment needs in one box? Besides, the Wii U is basically dead in the water due to its current gen specs and lack of any advantages over PS360, causing major publishers to drop support, while Sony has pretty much abandoned the Vita.

That's right, Scoob.

The difference is the Dreamcast was unjustly screwed (well, Sega's history had a part to play as well). But as an isolated system, the Dreamcast was better than the PS2 was a long, long time; the super insane PS2 hype just overshadowed it. Games fan-wise, it was one of the biggest injustices in the console industry. But in the end, as a company, Sega got what it deserved, despite it being one of the best systems of all time.

I apologize, you're very right. Dreamcast was an AWESOME console that died tragically because Sega's past mistakes caught up to it.

Xbox One is an abomination that came off a well received predecessor in the 360.

it really wasnt segas fault tbh, it was a function of the timing.

dreamcast had a great launch, excellent launch library, decent price tag......and then ps2 was announced.

i guess you could hold sega accountable for said timing, but i dont feel like dreamcast failed as much as ps2 was really, really good.

The last game was released for the DC I think last year if I am not mistaken. Surely that equals dead, right?

You have no idea how corporations and big business works do you? This is MS, they can afford damn near anything they want to. The original xbox is a prime example of this. You think Nintendo has a lot of money with 10 billion in Cash(hint: they do)? One man at MS could buy them 3 times over. A single failed launch won't do anything but piss off some investors. They aren't going anywhere though, they know MS is a surefire pay check.
