Why even have discs?

gotta pander to the brick and mortar stores.

i buy everything digital now. just like most pc users, ive gotten used to having to be online or digital only years ago.

Microsoft can have their cake and eat it to?

Their marketing research likely shows most gamers aren't ready to switch to digital only... so now they can sell discs, but still have all the benefits of digital.

so their servers aren't bogged down with people downloading 20+ gb games

There really isn't a point. In fact I wonder if the system is even capable of running anything off a disc. Seems like it's only there to read the disc for an install and authentication.

If I read the press release correctly, it doesn't even say it reads Blu Ray movies - it says it "plays Blu Ray movies and other downloadable media". The fact that it lumps Blu Ray into downloads is pretty telling imo.
