Try living in Australia. The PS3 launched at $1000 here and every new game still costs $100 at least.

We should tell this to the Americans who think that gaming is too expensive at $60.

Even though tax causes the prices to increase, the bottom-line is they're still paying way, way more. What Microsoft has to pay in tax isn't the customer's problem.

And I say "they're" even though I'm currently in the UK, because I'm sure as hell not gonna encourage Microsoft to shaft me by beckoning them over and giving them lube.

$600 is about 395. Don't you also have to pay tax on top of your purchases??

Tax is already included in the price, unless stated. So add 20% to 395 and it becomes 474. So the actual price isn't too bad.

Also, games won't be 50 to 55 due to competition between many retailers and supermarkets. That's the RRP, which is no different to the RRP of games right now.

Pretty much, although the console was equivalent to $666 when the price was announced :)

Will have to wait and see on game prices though...

Minimum wage in Australia is around $14.70 USD and in the UK around $9.5 USD. (For those native to those countries minimum wage in the US in your currency is around 4.8 GBP and 8.0 AUD)

Things are more expensive in those countries partially because the people make more money there. I can't really factor in the social programs, health care, income taxes and such since I don't know. The guy working at that game store in Australia is likely making twice as much as the equivalent guy in the US.
