What if Microsoft loses this gen?

In terms of sales? They've already lost in that regard. In games? That could be subjective. Which console you get you should be fine and if you like a game not available on x console then get both.

the xbox will deservedly come last but i dont see what that has to do with the people that choose to buy it, unless there are so few people online that you have trouble finding other players to play with

Winning a generation needs to be defined. In my eyes, it's coming first in sales. You can still be successful while still not winning the generation.

Sony technically lost last gen but the PS3 still ended up strong in the end.

PS3 outsold 360 dude.
Microsoft ended up in last place in terms of hardware sale

MS won where it counts ... profit. Xbox 360 owners were playing games and subscribing to XBL, PS3 owners were watching movies, Wii owners were wondering why they even bought the dang thing.

i wouldnt be talking all smug about the 360's sales and then bring the wii into the picture, seeing as how it beat both consoles

Does it really matter? Microsoft sold less hardware but more software.
Microsoft as a company are doing extremely well Sony not so well.
I really don't care which system sell the most (i believe it will be PS4) Im happy to play games in the console i chose along with millions of others.

Who cares if they "lose" aslong as you're having fun with your console?

People take this console war stuff far too serious. Playground stuff, honestly.

So I guess the Wii "won" the last gen. Hardware sales don't mean squat. The xbox 360 was by far the most influential console last gen. Not the crappy Wii and not the dull PS3. Therefore everybody knows the 360 is all time champion of all consoles because it is the best ever made.

I agree wholeheartedly. This fighting is dumb, pointless and immature. While everyone else fights, I'm playing games.

I love how people think that one of the big 3 necessarily have to win a generation. A system can still be profitable for the company without winning the generation. The Gamecube sold around 20 million units, compared to the 140 million of the PS2, but it was still a profitable system for Nintendo.

Having said that, I think there's no way the Xbox One will "win" this generation as Sony is untouchable when it comes to Europe and Japan. I could even see the PS4 outselling the Xbox One in the US. However, the Xbox One will still be profitable for Microsoft.
