Lol, sad XBONERS the video they showed of the controllers touchpadbeing used to "flick" little robot guy's onto the screen was using a camera, and that camera was capturing what is sees onto the screen. so if you saw a light on the screen from the controller is was because the camera was displaying you with the controller on the screen,DERP DE DERP!!
That actually seems reasonable, and would be nice if true.

It uses RGB SMD LED's, it's not going to cause a glare and it will barely affect the battery.
This. Although they should have a way for you to turn it off instead of just letting the developers do it.
