Is this what happens when you come out the same year as Sony?

Microsoft could of easily laid sonys PS4 to rest if it wasent for their unadulterated greed and lack of respect for the consumer.

All they had to do was entice consumers by giving them OPTIONS with their own perks instead of strong arming.

-Announce a cheaper kinectless console as one of the bundle options.
-Keep basic functions away from the pay wall.
-Offer the family share plan for digital game libraries.
-leave DRM up to the developers.
-Offer 10 dollar discounts on games bought from their marketplace

It would of been so easy.

The ****ing Wii the last time that Sony launched a consol. </thread>

correct we all consider the wii and wiiu a full fledged success.

How was the Wii not a success using almost any quantative factor it outpaces the PS3.

While it is true that the wii sold significantly more than the HD consoles, it colossally failed in almost every other regard. Many don't even consider it part of the current generation, and that the wii u was a very late addition to current gen.

You can't be a gamer if you're not undermining nintendo...
That really means absolutely nothing in the bottom line which is
A- Profits for the company &
B- Fun games that people enjoy

Nintendo delivered on that front with the WII in a big big way...
With the WII U however? lol well... no not at all.

you do realize the 360 came out BEFORE ps3...and ps3 had such a bad price/launch that it took them almost 4 years to get out of the gutter slump?

Okay.. ps3 game out a year later, at a much higher price, had a HORRIBLE launch.. and still beat 360. You aren't helping your case here.

They only came back because they focused on exclusives and MS pretty much just gave up on them aside from Halo and Gears of War. I think MS has learned their lesson about that so once people get over the DRM and being "forced" to buy a Kinect MS has a chance to come back.

Not that it matters who sells more consoles since both systems are going to have a better user base than the 360 and PS3 so neither system is in dager of failing.

People were going crazy when the PS4 was announced? I don't remember that. People were rather "meh" about the thing when it was announced. It was only when Microsoft revealed the Xbox One and revealed themselves to be hugely arrogant jackasses that people went crazy for the PS4.

Sony lost last gen, they lost almost 70 million of there base last gen because of the PS3 all the while MS gained over 50 million to there base and that is what MS wanted and they won.

In the US 360 killed PS3,average 360 owner owns 26 games, average PS3 owner owns 9 games and 3rd party games on 360 almost always outsells the PS3 version.

Sony lost last gen big time, just look at PS2 and PS3's numbers and tell me they won?hahaha

Uh

Was Xbox fans ready to jumpship, seems like it.

It was more or less as it is.

The Xbox 360 was branded Xbox 1.5 and only 1/2 as powerful as the PS3..believe it or not, people thought the PS3 would run games better - Today 360 is the oldest console on market, but has the best performance.

The PS3 was described as future-proof - Today it's sales spiral is lower than the Xbox (OG) and more aligned with gamecube, it also reflects the lowest total sales of a current generation platform.

Sony was getting it's online/ OS act together and would match the Xbox 360 very soon (mid 2007) - It never did

My personal favorite - All Xbox has is Halo - In the US the opening month Halo 3, 4 and Reach have trebled the best selling PS3 exclusive openings, Halo 2 doubled it.

Less first parties = less exclusives - PS3 has less retail exclusives than the Xbox 360 or the Wii.

Profits, ah profits. Very important. Even Sonys last place cost them $6 billion. Will Sony lost $6 billion this time to barely stay in the race? Who knows?

Even the "was a lot more expensive" thing is all over the place, the PS3 launched at $500 and had firesale after firesale (dropped to less, bigger HDD introduced and bundled with resistance and motorstorm) - it was only more expensive for 10 months.

I agree, TC. That's just how powerful the PS brand is. Even before Microsoft's implosion, mostly everyone was excited for the PS4. Now, it's not even close between them and the Xbone.

Poor Microsoft though. Came in dead last with the 360 after all that fight and throwing everything they had.

Lol at Xbottles in this topic hugging the Wii since they can't fall back on their own console to provide victory. They know the Wii never has nor ever will count against the PS3 and 360 as it was aimed at a completely different demographic and Nintendo was doing their own thing.

They cheated with the Wii and they thought they could replicate results with the U, but sadly, they dried up the casual well.

All that's left is the hardcore (JRPGs, story driven FPS/FPA, WRPGs, action/adventure, racing sims, puzzle games, survival horror) and the softcore (Multiplayer, COD, FIFA, Madden, FPSs) and Sony is looking to snaffle both up with the PS4, hence the 4:1 pre-orders.

This is what happens when you have stupid PR guys and make garbage decisions, while Sony does everything right.

Well that is sort of true. Microsoft made some bad decisions, true. But to say Sony has done everything right, not really. What they did right is shut up and let Microsoft dig a hole. How was adding a subscription for online doing everything right? Most Sony fans killed Microsoft for that. The announcement conference was horrid. I'm not saying being quite wasn't a smart move, but Sony has been far from doing everything right.

THIS guy is completely on the money. Wii was a success for Nintendo, not the people who purchased it. If it was so great, why havent you bought a WIIU or anyone else. Once again different market. I wish Nintendo would go back to SuperNES mentality.
