no.

but nobody buys XBL to watch their netflix.

If ur paying 7bux a month to watch old episodes of Lost and Miami Vice....u can afford to pay 50 bux a year to play multiplayer games.

if ur that worried...just watch Netflix on something else

This is why it's a terrible business decision. No one will pay for Gold simply to watch Netflix. So why on earth put it behind a paywall? If there is no profit from doing something that pisses people off, why piss people off?

See my post above. I mean you can hate it and still think its a bad decision, but from MS perspective (and business model that operates via revenue and not magic) that's the reason Netflix is behind a "paywall".

I did read your post, I still don't understand. Businesses make decision based on profit. You yourself said no one would buy XBL to watch netflix.

Therefore WHY put it behind a wall when Netflix itself is not going to make someone pay for XBL. It's not a profit motivated decision if no profit will come from it. It seems like a strange decision to make if it's not going to drive people to buy your Gold service.

If it actually made people get Gold, then I could at least understand why they do it. It would be a profit orientated decision that pisses people off, but in the end still makes them enough money to warrant doing it. But from what everyone has been telling me, no one* (or very few) will buy gold because they want to watch netflix. If someone wants gold, it's for different reasons. So why do it?

Two things:

1. For that one guy, who's only means to stream Netflix is somehow a 360......life's a b****, ain't it.

2. Netflix (more like the entire suite of apps and the convenience of having them all in one place) isn't a separate proposition.....and again, we're not just talking about Netflix here....its part of an entire package (which primarily serves online gaming feature). That "entire package" isn't being brought to you via pixie dust....its being brought to you via revenue.

Which you'll no doubt "enthusiastically accept" online MP being behind SONY's "paywall", so what's your point?

You're running out of moves. That's the point.

Sony had to add a fee to play games online to maintain a higher quality service long term (to which lemmings still attack with "EHHH PSN suxx XBL still teh bestt!"). And that alone is still cheaper than Gold - $60/yr. vs. $50/yr. + FREE games and content every month. Making it even cheaper as it pays for itself.

It's asinine for MS to require a paid Gold subscription on my 360 just to use apps and sites that are already FREE on my PC. IE. GameSpot, IGN, Gametrailers, Youtube, Crackle, and many more. Even the internet browser IE has a paywall!

It felt stupid and discouraging. I end up shutting off my 360, turning on laptop, and bam, I can log into Youtube and GSpot for free. since us people are ALREADY paying internet bills to boot. Why the hell should Gold be required to just use things that are free everywhere else? including on Playstation - Party chat, recording/streaming feature, Netflix, Youtube, etc.

http://www.gamechup.com/ps4-playstation-plus-details-cross-game-chat-doesnt-require-the-service/

http://www.dualshockers.com/2013/08/08/playstation-plus-wont-be-required-to-record-and-stream-video-on-ps4/

So if Micro slaves want to keep accepting all that MS does to them with no question. By all means. Milking your money not mine.

Case in point. Apparently in that delusional world of the SONY fanboy, this hasn't been the case for XBL over the last ten years and why that "complete package" is renowned for being the far superior network.

Again, the bright side of you about to be placed behind the "paywall" of online MP, is that maybe by next gen, SONY may be close to parity......giving that have a little extra spend cash off the profits.

Its all good for me too, given I just love gaming and do not subject myself to some "asinine" allegiance to a brand or self-impose limitations on what I can and can't play.

The better they both two.....twice as good for me. I win.

I assumed you were the guy I was originally quoting, which is why my second reply was a little strange based on your initial post.

The package thing is a good point on your end. But it's worth mentioning that these are mostly 3rd party apps that are being brought to you via a 3rd party. Most likely Microsoft paid them a large fee to allow themselves to be only Gold level.

Microsoft may run into troubles with the xOne though. They say they want it to be the center of the living room for even people who don't game. This may be tricky if the desirable features all require a subscription to even access (on top of the subscription for the apps that may require it). There are plenty media centers and there will be plenty more coming out that won't require any subscription. So depending on how gimped the default xOne is it may be a large con for people who don't want to add another subscription fee to their life. It's also possible that it will be wildly popular even with non gamers, it's too early to tell.

I dont think it SHOULD, but I already do, and will continue to have xbox live gold so it doesnt matter to me. I've had Xbox live gold since 3 or 4 months after its released on the original Xbox and I always love it so it doesnt matter. (I use netflix on my PS3 anyway, I prefer the interface for netflix there than on 360 plus to me it streams clearer and better on PS3).
