Why would you all think MS is holding out on the release date?

In and of itself, it wouldn't be too much of an issue. November is November, a week before or after the PS4's launch isn't going to make a difference in long-term demand or short-term sales, since both consoles aren't going to be readily available at launch anyway.

But the absence of a firm release date with the rest of the circumstantial evidence we have of the console being rushed doesn't help confidence any. Taken into context with the rest of that information, it's not a big surprise that it's getting talked about a lot on the Internet. This console is always going to be compared to the PS4, and when it's chief competitor already laid out their launch plans and territories, the lack of clarity on their plans is going to be highlighted.

In 2005, they didn't have their main competitor to worry about. They were all alone.

Their competitor has laid everything out and people expect MS to as well.

All true. However an announcement in the middle of September for an already confirmed November release is completely reasonable regardless of what the competition is doing. Some tech companies don't even officially announce their products until 2 weeks before the actual release.

I guarantee they're going to have a big announcement alongside the release date.

They're fielding offers to sell the XBONE division and hoping and praying somebody does buy it from them. They wouldn't want to lock the new owner into a release date if they can help it.

No particular reason. They announced their console 3 months later than Sony and their release date is at best 2 weeks apart.

360 Ram was final pre-reveal. Comments post launch suggested Feb-March 2005.

The Xbox One strikes me as a console planned originally for 2014

Nah, 2012 or earlier maybe. They have more retail games than Sony day 1, would that be the case if they were aiming for 2014?

November 27th is most likely the launch, seems like an odd day to pick as a placeholder date by Amazon

I think Amazon has that as their placeholder because MS said November, and that's the latest realistic date that they would launch in November. They won't launch on Thanksgiving, Black Friday, or a Saturday.
