From Major Nelson: The Xbox One controller does not use WiFi Direct for any of it's communication. The controller uses a proprietary wireless communication protocol that is optimized for gameplay and voice chat.
Xbox One does support WiFi Direct but that is for things like SmartGlass

Wouldn't this fix the smartglass issues that some people had on the 360?

What this means is that people without internet/router can enjoy Smartglass with Wifi Direct (like WiiU), where on a PS4 you need a router/internet to enjoy Vita Streaming.

Lets be honest here...who has an internet connection just for their game console? Wireless routers are pretty much common place at this point in time

The way these boards make out not 2 months ago is the world does not have internet and cannot check in once every 24hrs, only the elite few have internets they say.

With the X1 you won't need one period.

LOL.... The Vita connects to the PS4 via locale or over the network. How are people still confused about this? The PS3 does this.

You'll need internet for a one time download, then you don't need it.
How many mods does it take to screw in a light bulb? "the lightbulb is technically not violating the TOS so we're powerless to do anything about it"
