Why? The same reason laptops have power bricks.

Mac books(Pro/Air) would like to have a word with you...

As for design, like MS should be superior in the software side Sony should be superior in the hardware size. Despite the smaller size and higher tech the PS4 actually runs cooler than the PS3.

PS4 running temperature is nothing but Rumor....Operating temperature on FCC chart are only for hardware environnement usage...not internal spec....5-35 *C for use it. PS4 fanboy spec boosting again...

Anyway its always more easy to put a doubt or talk negatively about a product...Than actually take all the real spec and data and show them their wrong...based on Rumor and unidentified source...Do you really think that Microsoft will show you all their hidden card for the XboxOne while Sony is showing nothing at all...

As to say that Sony is better in hardware...Based on what...
Audio receiver are low quality
Radio for car are cheap made
Smartphones are just ok
TV are ok
Portable PC are low to medium

And its not all OEM part that are in their product...Other and many electronic manufacturer makes better product than Sony...including Microsoft...

I have no idea why your so angry, Sony just has a longer history dealing with hardware good or bad products it's all experience. As someone asked earlier outside of the Xbox brand how many hardware products have Microsoft release that have been actually successful?

I'd like to also add in my original post I put "SHOULD have the advantage" meaning it's not set in stone, things can change.

Knowing this, its beyond me why MS has a better track record when it comes to consoles. Sony has yet to put out a single console without hardware issues at launch and they supposedly have all the experience. MS and Nintendo have both put out solidly working consoles (og xbox, gc, N64, wii, pretty much any ninty console)

Lol wat!?

Overheating issues. If the whole system overheats, together with the power brick inside, you'll have a nice little BBQ grill.

So having heat outside the system going in is better than having inside in a controlled environment where it can be blown out? The heat can come into the system in any direction when the PSU is outside, the fan only blows one way.

Having the PSU pull in air from inside then blowing it outside will help the system remain cool. A lot of people are mistaking thinking the PSU in the PS4 will be pulling air in from outside and blowing it into the system. That won't be the case

That's why the brick is outside instead of an internal PSU. They will remove internal heat as much as possible to prevent overheating.

My power brick on my 4th 360 died in July because of overheating. You just have two potential things that can overheat with the power supply.

I don't think most people realize why the Xbox 360 had so many issues. It was bad replacement of parts plus bad soldering. Sure it took them a while, but I haven't heard of any Xbox S's RRODing.

Sony is a hardware company.

They make better hardware than Microsoft.

I don't see this changing any time soon.

Microsoft has been making devices since the 90's. Microsoft has shown they can make great hardware like the Surface. Maybe all the good engineers got to work on Surface and the C-team got the One...

Simple. Sony's a hardware manufacturer and Microsoft is a software manufacturer. It makes sense that the PS4 could go without a power brick since Sony's engineers design and build laptops, TVs, and tablets. Plus they've been doing so for the last eight years as the tech has gotten smaller and the core architecture has changed. Microsoft hasn't done anything in terms of hardware besides the Surface since the 360 released, which doesn't have hardware problems to my knowledge.

But still, one tablet versus a hardware division makes a huge difference

Microsoft's Surface gets hot enough to cook eggs..

MS has no ideal wtf they're doing when it comes to hardware.
