Depends on how many they can sell at $499. If it sells well then there is no reason to drop the price. If it sells moderately but below expectations you can expect retailers to put the console on sale, if it is even lower then MS will reduce the price. If it bombs then MS will try to pretend the whole Xbox One thing didn't happen and release a new console in 2016 that won't be able to play Xbox One games because backwards compatibility is backwards thinking.
