You're right.

This would be a good thing for MS if the xbox was actually releasing in Japan this November, but it's not.
And seeing as how Titanfall pretty much confirmed to be coming to ps4 as well, I don't think it will end up benefiting them much.

A competitive FPS game drawing a crowd in Japan?

I never knew Japan liked competitive video games OR first person shooters. This is weird.

They get to play out their gundam wing fantasy.

This one game will not sell XBones in Japan. MS basically threw money into JRPG's at the beginning of last gen with an 8 month head start uncontested and it still bombed.

No way in an ice blue hell will this overcome with an even playing field.

Eh I didn't cherry pick it. It was just the first highly successfull american computer tech product that came to mind. Also foriegn products struggling in japan has historically had more to do with tariffs they place on forgien products than anything else.

here is some more food for thought:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/05/world/asia/japanese-poll-finds-a-rush-of-good-will-for-us.html?_r=0

If you really think the average japanese person is going about their lives thinking "man I'm really pissed at the usa over that atomic bomb" then your really out of touch with modern Japan.

The first and pretty much the only product.

Your poll has nothing to do with how they feel about buying American products and it was taken from only 3000 people.

If you're going to use polls like that, this one is just as relevant:

http://globalpublicsquare.blogs.cnn.com/2013/03/20/what-japanese-and-americans-think-about-each-other/

Japanese attitudes toward trade with the United State have also improved. In 1994, a United States Information Agency survey found that a plurality (40 percent) of Japanese thought that U.S. policies and actions were harmful to the Japanese economy. And more than half said Washington made it difficult to sell Japanese products in the American market. Today, 48 percent of Japanese think their country should participate in TPP, which is effectively a free trade agreement with the United States, according to a November 2012 Asahi Shimbun survey.

So that's still only less than half of Japan that actually wants an open trade agreement with the US.
Which says just as much about how they feel about the nukes as your poll does: absolutely nothing.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110207003441AAMs4QD

Link contains a link to a 2010 survey asking Japanese how they felt about the bombings:

Question 7 : What do you think about America's atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki ?
unacceptable - 47.9 / 50.1 / 52.8
acceptable --- 42.2 / 38.5 / 38.3
other answer - 03.3 / 03.8 / 02.9
no response -- 06.7 / 07.6 / 05.9

But again, this poll says just as much as yours as far as the subject of discussion is concerned: absolutely nothing.

The fact that you think a poll asking 3000 people if they have friendly feelings towards a country is somehow proof that they don't consider the bombings when buying American products is really quite funny.

Seems the USA is Japans second largest trade partner behind China. Importing 67 billion dollars worth of trade goods into Japan in the year 2010. Kinda blows a hole in that 'Japanese won't buy American stuff because of atomic bombs derp' argument.

Finally a convincing argument.

You're right, they might not be adverse to all American products.

I'll change the earlier statement:

Xbox isn't releasing in Japan for quite some time (some reports say up to a year)
PS4 is releasing in November
Titanfall is most likely going to be available for ps4 somewhere next year
Japanese have never been very interested in the previous xboxes
No one will buy a $500 product they don't really want for a game they possibly only need to wait a few months for to get it on a product they haven't really shown much interest in before
