Predictions time: first year how many PS4/X1 unit sales.

#1Cowboy082288Posted 9/23/2013 9:53:30 PM
First year being this, the end of november of 2013 to the end of november 2014.

My predictions:

X1 sales = 4.6 million units.

PS4 sales = 5.5 million units.

Those may be overly optimistic numbers, seeing as many next-gen games will also be available for current gen systems. Also this new gen is facing a competitor it's never had before in a launch. The wildly popular tablets (mostly the iPad). The iPad sold 22.9 million units in the 1st Qtr. of 2013. I suppose smart phones also compete for some of the same dollars that could go to consoles, but I don't believe phones directly compete as much as tablets do.

Anyways, thats my prediction, what's yours?

The PS4 will sell more on the basis of it being cheaper.

Also, I don't think 2 new consoles have ever launched this close to eachother before. Maybe it has happenned before but I can't think of it. Anyways I suspect that will hurt sales of both to an extent.

The Gamecube and Original Xbox launched within 3 days of each other in the US (Nov 18th and Nov 15th respectively)

It didn't really hurt them against each other (they sold about the same) since the PS2 roflstomped both of them in sales.

The PS3 and Wii launched within a week of each other as well.
