Am I the only one that's very worried about what Phil Harrison just said?

They have said in various interviews and articles that the old policies and features are likely to return in a modified form in the future. The only way I could think of to make it work and not cause another riot is to make it for digital content only, leaving disk based media the same as it is now, and only have a online requirement when the owner of a digital game has offered their game for sharing. If it is not, then a online connection is not required.

This is probably the most likely scenario.

That sounds like the most likely scenario.

They've never tried to hide it that they're still wanting to push their initial ideas forward, but I doubt they'll try to do the exact same thing they tried at E3 again.

We all knew they were going to bring these BS policies back after the system is in people's homes. Another reason I will never purchase a MS product, especially an Xbox One.

Actually, no, there are MANY people on this board that deny this will ever happen. It's sickening, yes. But you know, fanboys and all.

And the funny thing is is that MS is telling them it's coming back and they STILL deny it. Lol

Well sheep will always need a Shepard I suppose.

I don't see the problem with those original policies so long as physical media remains unaffected. Like it or not, there will be a massive shift to digital on the consoles this generation.

All right, look. The only thing that I take from these interviews is that they don't get that their policies were bad. They're still arrogant.
However, it is OVER. Discs are here to stay for the Xbox One and Offline mode is here to stay.
There will be no "some people will opt in and some won't" a system like that won't work.
It's going to be like this "Digital games MIGHT get benefits down the line and physical will be the same as it's always been"

Almost this.

Correctly:

There will be no "some people will opt in and some won't" a system like that won't work.
It's going to be like this "Digital games WILL get benefits down the line and physical will be the same as it's always been"

Hopefully they do end up doing what they originally planned before all the nerds ruined it.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid,

Basically this.

But it doesn't take a too much thought to realize that even if Microsoft won't implement it at a system level, the industry is moving in the direction of online only. Time will tell if they follow suit with digital only.

All it will take is for the big dogs to start moving in that direction with their major products. A lot of upcoming titles - including almost all the major titles - are online only. Titanfall, Destiny, The Crew, The Division. I think Deep Down might be online only (?).

If you look at the past, EA leveraged the power of Battlefield 3 to launch Origin. Could they do the same with Battlefield 5 and release it as digital only on consoles? Absolutely.

Basically, in summary: Microsoft won't implement it at a system level, but the industry is going in that direction so the end result will likely be the same.

I have more faith in the company that has been transparent from day 1. Unlike sony that removed features like other os and lied about psn hack, denied faulty ps2s and spyware in music and now removed free online gaming while claiming it was too improve their network when obviously its just for the ps4 to break even.
