Has Japan become irrelevant for software sales?

Monster hunter will continue to sell well for a long time.

He said what he said. Japan software caters to a japanese market, unless it's like a dark souls or 3rd person shooter.

Again I don't what your point is? My point is that console software sales are abysmal in japan. So why should any dev (including Japanese devs) care about making consoles games targeted at that market?

I mean even a game like super mario galaxy sold much better in the US and Europe than Japan:

Super Mario Galaxy Wii 2007
5.79 North America
2.99 Europe
1.20 Japan
0.91 Rest of the world
10.89 Total

There are three times more people living here.

Profit is profit, what don't you understand?

I think your missing the point, handhelds sale way better than console games in Japan. Also even mario galaxy a popular brand in japan still had almost 5 times the sales in NA.

Fair point, but is sort of relevant if looking to what sort of games will be developed for the X1.

Japan doesn't care about X1 outside of fighting games.

Japan doesn't care about Xbone.

Fixed. Xbox has never done well in Japan, perhaps it's because they have little tolerance for poorly made hardware.

... well apparently consoles in general are not doing well in japan. X1, PS4, Wii U were not exactly the highlight of the show at TGS.

Also as of last week sales, apparently console sales suck in Japan too, 3DS by far the best selling system there:

Scroll down to the system sales chart.

They'll be relevant again with ps4 being on top as number 1.

Keep in mind that ps3 was difficulty to develop for, thus giving xbox 360 the edge.

Ps4 will likely be lead console this gen.
Japan hates the xbox brand.

Ps4 will blow Ms away due to it being the better and more accepted console.

Japan kind of has a capitalist economy.

Once you're a certain age you aren't expected to play videogames and stuff.

The place is crowded and the people are small.

The people are what ???
