How come people on here are tripping on 720p and 1080p?

I know some trolls are blowing it way out of proportion, but I can't tell the difference between the two.

I got an 42inch plasma in my bedroom and I'm bout 5 feet away from it. I got 720p videos and 1080p videos and I really can't tell the difference. I can tell the difference between Blu-Ray and standard though, its like night and day.

Is their any comparison videos that will help? Is the difference between the two that great?

Perhaps just because it's something to talk about.

I play skyrim on my PC and when I change between 720 and 1080 I honestly don't notice much. Everything looks shinny on 1080.

The actual visual distance is pretty minor (at normal viewing distance for the screen size).
The reason it is a big deal is because it showcases the difference in power between the two systems.

There is a difference between 720 and 1080, the problem is both look great.

Here's how it works:

If your system does 30fps and the other guy's does 60fps, you talk about how little 60fps matters.
If your system does cross-game chat and the other guy's doesn't, you talk about how important it is.
If your system does 1080p and the other guy's does 720p, you talk about how crappy 720p is in (whatever year you're arguing).
If your system has Gran Turismo and the other guy's has Forza, you talk about derivative Forza is.
If your system has Halo and the other guy's has Killzone, you talk about how lame Killzone is.
Also, try to work in that CoD is only for half-breed orangutans that don't know what fun is.
See how it works?

At no point should you ever, ever worry about whether the game is fun. Try to stay focused on pixel counting because heaven knows that if you can play a game on a cheaper system and get more pixels, you'd be a fool not to make it a personal crusade to let everyone know they won't be having fun on their inferior box.

If you do it right, you'll get some knucklehead that thinks he's having more fun on his PC 'cuz mouse aiming to pipe up and tell everybody that they aren't having fun.

Most people can't tell the difference between 720 and 1080, so it's kinda dumb to even rave about it. Same with 120hrz and 240hrz tvs. Most can't even tell.

It depends on the game. I can tell when a game is in 720p vs 1080p.
