IF they did that, They would probably all jump ship. What's the use of limiting the PS4s power when they can get more work in for less time.

I think that Microsoft should introduce a sort of "Xbox Premiere" branding to highlight multiplatform games that look or perform best on Xbox platforms. Support developers with software support in order to optimize the game to be the best on the Xbox. Then offer publishers preferential advertising and promotion on the Xbox Dashboard, website, and marketplace - or, perhaps even, offer to subsidize their distribution costs in some way. Along this way they could also do things like mandate 1080p60 or other random boosts associated with the Xbox, like SmartGlass integration etc.

In way Microsoft could position the branding similar to "Greatest Hits". But rather than using it to say "hey here's a good game," it's to promote the Xbox brand.

FWIW, Sony could do the same thing. But, not looking up financial reports, I'd imagine that it'd be harder for them to manage the cash flow.

If they do they are the cancer of the gaming world and anyone that buys Xbox products are spending that cancer.

Haven't they already been doing this in the current gen?

No.

No 3rd company would benefit from leaving one of the major consoles. If MS asks for parity there will likely be parity. Just how it works.

Actually, didn't Nintendo lose a lot of support in part of doing that with the N64?

Regardless, the backlash from gamers would be severe if Microsoft did something like that because their system isnt capable of doing what another system is capable of doing. That would be a PR nightmare worse then what the had at E3.

I don't have a problem with x1 but if this happens I'd have a problem with anyone who supports this kind of garbage practice. Everyone talks about how much money MS has...why wouldn't they have spent more on the system hardware if they needed to be at least as good as the competition. I don't see why anyone should settle for less of a game because of moneyhatting

That is an anti-competitive tactic that should be a crime.

People keep justifying the existence of the Xbox brand as competition for Sony.

But tactics like this make it clear that Microsoft doesn't compete with Sony, they use politics to cripple PS4 games down to Xbone levels.

Microsoft would rather lower the standards for all gamers than raise themselves to Sony's level.

Why should Sony improve themselves if Microsoft will enforce parity to diminish that effort? Microsoft is anti-competition for Sony. Microsoft gives Sony an excuse to give less effort.
