"The Next Xbox Can Render Avatar Graphics"

It took hundreds of servers and multiple weeks to render Avatar. No way in hell is a console doing that.

I wouldn't say entirely current gen, but sort of on the same "in between gens" hardware handhelds tend to be.

Not 7th gen, not 8th gen, but something like 7.5.

Well basically, in between 360 and PS4.

People thought that was serious?
Talk like that happen almost every generation.
The Nintendo 64 was supposed to be able to render the special effects in Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park, and the PS2 was supposed to render Toy Story graphics.

Anyone who thought this was possible at an even remotely playable framerate and resolution is an idiot.

“Cameron told audience each frame of finished film takes 30-50 hrs to render, then double that up for 3D.”

Claims like this are almost always touted and people have no idea. That's probably tens of thousands of cores taking tens of hours to render a single frame. Maybe in 2050 it'll be possible and even then that's pushing it with those techniques.

That sounds like Cameron talking out of his ass to me to try to make the movie sound more advanced than it was.

Even if it was "only" 1 or 2 hours that's still a lot.

Look, games will never look as good as movie CGI because those movies are rendered 1 frame at a time and require more power than any standard PC or console could ever muster. We still don't have any game graphics that match Lord of the Rings and that movie is old now.
