One of the reasons for including the Kinect with the Xbox One is that game developers can use it in their games because they know everyone has one. However the Ryse developers still did not want to use it because they found it hard to implement well. They said that while they would like to do a game fully based on the Kinect they can't make a game that uses it significantly as "each person moves differently" and they would have to teach the correct movements to the player detracting from the experience.

Those who want to play games fully based around the Kinect could probably buy the devices separately. More people seem to be interested in "standard" games than pure Kinect games however and the failure of these standard games to use Kinect features meaningfully might leave many people feeling that their Kinect is not useful and create an increased need for a Kinectless Xbox One.

Why not? MS has been eager to change the Xbox One and the Kinect is one of the most controversial features it has.

The console would only cost 100 if they took it out.

So much of the OS is designed around it, and they have such a heavy investment in it.

The bundling of Kinect has almost nothing to do with games. That should be obvious. If the multimedia features fail to catch on AND the sales lag significantly behind Sony, they will offer a SKU without Kinect.

Because as soon as MS start selling Kinectless XBO's, developers would feel less compelled to put the time and money into integrating features that use it, which would ultimately end in it collecting dust just like the current one.

I can see it happening somewhere down the line, not any time in the next couple of years though.

You say that as if that would be a bad thing.

They have shown that they are willing to listen to the community and change their vision if their choices proved to be significantly unpopular. While many have been cautiously optimistic about the Kinect in games now it seems that the devs are having difficulties in using Kinect meaningfully in games.

It's true that they have invested in it but sometimes you just can't "force" a product despite heavy investments.

Perhaps but that is one of their reasonings as to why the Kinect must be included. If the games don't find ways to use it well less people will be willing to accept that reasoning.
