The Kinect is the past. It would be like Nintendo releasing a new and exciting Power Glove with every new Nintendo console.

If you're an old fart like me, you'll remember all this hubub when they first announced this for Xbox Live. Now broadband connection is common place.

It seems like Microsoft likes to drag people kicking and screaming into the future. HINT HINT. I might be referring to the Kinect.

Being an "old fart" is remembering something from 12 years ago?

This is also an apples to oranges comparison. Broadband is necessary for multi-player gaming on any console made after 2000 and is not on the same level as the Kinect or PS Eye.

One was needed for technical reasons.

The other was needed for $$$ reasons.

wrong.

Do you ever get embarrassed about being wrong saying wrong all the time? Multi-player online games back in 200 needed broadband to function. We do not need the Kinect 2.0 today to get the X1 to function.

Mandatory Technology vs Supplementary Peripheral.

Forcing the Kinect on us as a pack in instead of offering it separately is just an excuse to bump up the price of the whole package. There can be no intelligent denying of this.
