MS to bow out of console market?

Sorry if this is old, but I just saw this: http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2013/11/11/more-signals-that-microsoft-may-bow-out-of-console-market/61721/

The part that scares me is this: Just how much could Microsoft stand to benefit from shedding themselves of the Xbox? Well according to Rick Sherland doing so along with shedding Bing in conjunction with other moves could increase earnings 40%.

With such a high number, I could maybe see this happening...I hope it doesn't though. I ignored this as a rumor before, but that number...40%! That's hard to ignore. Please tell me this isn't true. I was planning to buy X1 in January-March 2014.

No, and those numbers are pure speculation.

Who knows? Maybe.

Don't buy it if you're that concerned.

They WILL not bow out. They gained a lot of the gaming market in the past 10 years.

not even the scariest rumor you could read about this, would not have any impact whatsoever on the xo. that ship, has sailed, er, shipped. the xo is here to stay. it'll be another generation before any of this talk would take effect on the consumers. sony, nintendo, and ms should probably go medieval on anyone within their own company who would even suggest anything like this before a new hardware launch. and ms, who usually don't comment on rumors or speculation, have flat-out denied this by calling it "fiction."

I guarantee MS has already started working on the successor to Xbox One.

Ms just spent billions developing x1. They arent about to bow out. In all likelihood sony will be backing out if ps4 doesnt sell to projections.

Nice. So I shouldn't worry about this then.

I wouldn't say you shouldn't worry about it. MS could sell it off. But Sony could also go bankrupt, you could get in a car accident today, an asteroid could hit the earth and wipe out all life, and the Jacksonville Jaguars could win the super bowl this year.
