I know why the disc drives are malfunctioning.

It's pretty funny Microsoft owns the codec they use on all blue ray discs even ps3 and 4's. So sony has to pay an amount every time they use one.

Coining it the Disc Drive of Death we should all just start calling it DDOD.

Anyways, customer service has 8-12 hour wait times, some people just get random "hang ups." Don't believe me call customer service.

Best part is it turns out the disc drive error can happen ANYTIME xD. Just because you didn't get a DOA doesn't mean DDOD won't hit you.

I feel BAD for Xbox fans right now @_@

8-12 hour wait times? I find that hard to believe

So, Sony developed blu-ray drives, right? I think that Sony gave MS bad drives to make them look bad and keep them from having a good launch. It's the most obvious reason for all of this stuff, and I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned it yet.

lol sony does not have the patent on blu-ray so stop blaming them for below-par workmanship on the part of mircosoft

I've mentioned that before, wondering if MS went with the highest quality drive, or the medium or low quality. after all, most players are going digital, so why spend the extra bucks on a higher quality drive?

MS paid for high quality drives and Sony is shipping low quality drives. Conspiracy

I remember sony using low quality disc drives on the PS1, I hope you are right because this soap opera would get so much better if sony is behind the RRoD and Failing disc drives

Wrong.

The Blu Ray players are "compatible" with many codecs (required as an industry standard), MS may own or have shared in the development with many of these but DO NOT own the BD-Codec. If they did they would have been a founding member of the Blu Ray association and even pack in the codec with their flagship media player by default.

Sony doesn't manufacturer blu ray drives, companies like LG, lite on, pioneer, do. Most of these companies probably get their drives made in the same factory in China.

I have a more appropriate explanation TC:

How about being MS plan so everyone goes full digital, as initially planned. Add non-working drive, leave the rest in work shape.

Just sarcastic. Still... Fitting.
