Meanwhile Sony sell the Playstation 4 at a profit loss, just like the Playstation 3. Microsoft have different marketing strategies compared to Sony.

What the hell does that mean?

The power brick also costs money to manufacturer, the SoC is estimated to cost $10 more than the PS4s, due to the eSRAM that's on the SoC's die. These are all estimated costs, other words only Sony and Microsoft knows how much it costs and that's just counting the parts to build it, not the cost to assemble it which is probably cents on the dollar but still.

Kinect costs $75 to make.............

ok.... whats your point then?

The X1 is still more expensive even when you take the kinect out of the equation. Weaker hardware = more expensive?

The eSRAM is quite expensive actually and it's located on the SoC's die, and it costs $10 estimate dollars. The GPU on the die is weaker, they had to go with a weaker one to even fit it on the die with the eSRAM garbage but still costs more. Microsoft also uses cheap brand ram also, which is puzzling why but whatever works I guess

I take the cost to assemble back on my previous posts, the build tear down includes $14 for assembly, but also adds $25 for the power brick.

It's ram is estimated to be $28 cheaper than the PS4s, I'm not entirely sure wtf MS spent it all on.

I didnt say anything about how much it cost to manufacture the kinect. I said design.

Last I heard PS4 only cost $381 to manufacture...so they are profiting somewhat - especially compared to the losses of the PS3.

Not necessarily. Stores aren't paying $400 to Sony for the console. Otherwise they'd have no profit margin. Not sure what the stores take is on each console though and I do believe the take is fairly slim and it also probably varies from store to store. It wouldn't surprise me if both consoles are basically breaking even on a per sale basis. Still though, as you said, better than ps3.

Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

Where did this dollar figure come from? Is it confirmed to be factual or is it just a(n educated?) guess?

Just a guess from the tear downs, it's fairly accurate tho, it's not like some bro on a website did it

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/teardown-reveals-xbox-one-costs-90-more-than-ps4-to-make/1100-6416404/

It's from a research firm, which can be wrong but most of the time they're correct or they wouldn't be in business

That's nice of Walmart and Bestbuy to sell PS4's without taking a cut from them. Here I was thinking retailers were taking atleast $100, leaving sony with around $300 to recoup costs....
