Since my current surround system doesnt have optical and cant hook up my xbox one to it... but ive noticed the xbox one does have the optical output... so does that actually work for surround sound or because of the whole dolby thing will it not work? --- I'm naming my Xbox One, Neo... because it's The One. I'm not sure if I understand your question, but the Xbox One does have surround sound using either Optical or HDMI output. Currently, you need to check the BETA setting in the TV Settings Troubleshooting menu, if you want 5.1 or 7.1 via HDMI.
My system only has HDMI out and AV in, nothing else, i managed to hook it up to my 360 with different cables but cant figure out how to do it with the One, so just debating buying a whole new surround sound system --- I'm naming my Xbox One, Neo... because it's The One. GT: One Called Rich
Time to get a new receiver. Make sure it is one that has uncompressed audio formats (DTS HD master audio and Dolby TrueHD). The only way to get uncompressed audio from it is from hdmi to your receiver. Most receivers should have this now. Then you use the receiver to switch inputs.
Since nobody has really answered the OP's question, yes it will work not a problem. I have my XB1 hooked up via hdmi to the television, and through optical audio to the surround sound. Works fine, no issues whatsoever. --- GT - xFGMx Kaell 3DS - 3179-7398-7610 - Kaell
