Honestly, can the Xbox One ever catch up to PS4 sales even so early?

Doubt it not for now anyway the black Friday numbers are meaningless that's all initial sales in fact these holiday sales are meaningless too. Once the initial buyers go through your typical drought will ensue sure some games will be released and people will buy them but console sales for both will be down drastically for the year. During this time the few they do purchase the console will be an accurate depiction of health for them.

The problem with surpassing the PS4 is simple the ONE released in more countries while the PS4 launched in far fewer the PS4 hasn't even launched in Japan yet. So throughout this year they'll be opening up new countries for sales which will keep their sales numbers healthy. The ONE can't have a another launch in the countries it already launched in so their numbers will be less plus Microsoft doesn't do well in Asia.

People will see these numbers and PS4 systematically bumping sales with timed launches and bam they patient and the cautious will go with the PS4 next year. Japanese launch should spike their global sales nicely during the Spring or whenever they launch it.

Still not launched in Japan yet and that's their home base plus most of Asia that's a major launch and the system will have gotten the bugs out and have more games and bundles prepared for them. Heck Strider will be a launch game in Japan as well.

That's barely a significant leap, and 360 had a year lead on PS3 but PS3 still sold more in the end despite the huge failure rates on 360.
XBox1 could easily catch up and surpass the PS4 just PS3 surpassed the 360. And it's obvious it will play out much like last but the roles reversed what with Sony only having like 15 first party teams to make exclusives while MS is spending 1 Billion dollars on exclusives!

This is why I will never truly believe the 360 sold more than ps3. Just the people I know personally have bought 3 systems or more, either because their warranty ran out when they got RROD or they weren't patient enough to play the shipping game. No telling how many people across the country did that.
