so when will we see developers make use of the ESRAM

#1Darkneo20Posted 12/5/2013 7:19:02 PM
the total memory bandwith of the ps4 is 176GB with GDDR 5

the xbox one with DDR 4 is only 68GB but once u factor in the 32MB of ESRAM it jumps up to 204GB total

and yes we all those are theoretical numbers that neither console will ever achiever due to overhead and latency but when will we see the esram in action and close the gap on ps4 if not surpass it

You're doing that thing the Sony fanboys are doing where you look at a single piece of the puzzle and claim that it's the entirety of the puzzle.

It's like claiming one pizza is better than another because it has more garlic powder in the sauce.

That's not how it works at all, and they will invest time and effort to use it little by little.

They already are. You don't really think they're writing the framebuffer to the main system RAM, do you?

Likely never in an overall performance comparison.

I think Microsoft teams are great at designing the graphics engines etc, and they are going to have to sort out the ESRAM engines fast for the Xbox One.
They are going to have the most issues still with it for porting over PC port type of games pre launch window vs development post launch window.

Why wouldn't they be using it? They won't be using it super efficiently (like everything else) but they will use it. Food for thought:

Xbox 360:

GDDR3 memory - 512MB with 22GB/s bandwidth.

EDRAM - 10MB with 256GB/s bandwidth.

Magical memory bandwidth addition that totally works™:

XB1: 272GB/s

360: 278GB/s

I never knew that...

so is edram better than esram? I'm assuming yes because developers have already had experience or...? I have no idea how this stuff works lol.

What good is fast RAM if it's powering a tablet cpu paired with a laptop graphics card?
