Remember when new consoles were twice as powerful as the previous gen?

Yeah what happened? SNES looked twice as good as the NES. PS1 looked twice as good as SNES. PS2 looked twice as good as the N64. Xbox One and PS4 look a little bit better than last gen and that's it.

Ryse and Killzone look good don't get me wrong, but it's nothing compared to seeing NFL 2K for the first time on the Dreamcast or Mario 64 when compared to Super Mario World on the SNES.

After 8 years with the 360 you'd think the graphical leap would be a lot bigger but it isn't.

Your expectations are too high, developers are having a tough time trying to make games the way they are now.

You're using the wrong words to express your still incorrect thoughts.

Twice as powerful doesn't necessarily mean twice as good graphics. But compare ryze to perfect dark zero.

Or compare Battlefield 4 on Xbox One to Battlefield 2 on Xbox 360.

If these consoles cost well over a grand you would expect to see a huge difference even at launch. For $500 they are looking about exactly as they should at this time. Games will look and feel much better in the coming years but really, and I hate to be 'that guy', if you wanted to see a drastic leap you should have gone for a high end PC. Even at the level the 360 and ps3 were at $500 doesn't get you much.

God, did you remember to render everything?

One thing you have to consider, game development is much more expensive now than it was back then. If they were to make a massive leap in graphics and power, the developer budgets would be higher and games would cost more to buy. Not to mention the console itself would be more expensive.
