Microsoft has announced today the first Xbox Entertainment Studios (XES) project, which will begin filming in January. The documentary series will kick off with an investigation of the 1983 Atari E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial burial in New Mexico.

This is a new partnership that builds on an arrangement Canadian film company Fuel Industries struck with the town of Alamogordo, New Mexico. The XES project will team award-winning producers Simon Chinn (Man on Wire) and Jonathan Chinn (FXs 30 Days) and their company, Lightbox, with a number of filmmakers.

Zak Penn (X-Men 2) will direct the documentary and will film Fuels excavation. When complete, the documentary will air on Xbox 360 and Xbox One wherever Xbox Live is available.
