does microsoft even see the xbox one as a gaming console?

the ideas aren't entirely new....so why act like it's innovative and fresh? and before anyone asks yes i do own an xbox one

this gamer tag is real you can see for yourself

but if we look at it one way this could be seen as microsoft's version of what nintendo did with the wii...market the hell out of it to the average person and casual gamer

surely it would end up as badly...but it could happen if Microsoft gets sucked into piling on more kinect games than we need or if they try to add extra bells and whistles to this mega media system that don't really function properly

The Xbox One plays games? All I ever see if dudebros bragging about how their adhd addled brains think it's amazing that they can swamp between pretending to play games(call of duty fans) and watching football and skyping or a bunch of other useless crap people without smart phones might find to be new and exciting.

Without being a fanboy of either system, in all honesty its like this:-

Microsoft see the Xbox One as a 'media center' for the family that also plays games.

Again, compare what the Ipod was and what it is now. Innovation!!! You dont have to like it. For people who dont care for gaming will think that the X1 is better just because of what can do.

That is why Sony with updates and new consoles tries to do what Microsoft is doing or did already. If not for the Xbox what would the PS3 really be? During PS3s duration they had updates to try to be as close to what people love about the 360. PS4 comes out and it is basically doing what the 360 already did.

I am not talking about what is better. I am no fanboy. I do prefer the 360 over PS3 and right now X1 over PS4. I consider PS1-2 best consoles ever. Never even owned a Xbox because of my childish ways back then. I wohld not give any credit to Xbox and was a huge PS fanboy.

I'll kindly disagree.

I don't think that promoting other features takes away from gaming or other features in any way. It is, after all, supposed to be an all-in-one entertainment device.

Sure, I have plenty of other devices that offer similar features but I don't use them because it is far more convenient to access them from one central location.

So why would you not want to advertise one of its major selling points.

The reality is that gamers are no longer the only target demographic. That doesn't mean the Xbox One suffers in any way as an enjoyable gaming device just because it also does other things well on the platform.

^^ This 100%.

I've never understood how having additional features on a console is somehow a "bad thing"....especially in this case where the gaming library is essentially better than the competition.

It's a bad thing when people don't want the additional bells and whistles.

Goofy topic, but I'll say this:

Xbox One is a game console. Remember this? Xbox One was built by gamers for gamers. Believe that or don't, I won't care.

You say Xbox to anyone, and they'll say game console. MS is making sure people know it's much more than that.

For a bunch of gamers they sure seemed have no idea what gamers wanted when they announced this thing. Dont fool yourself...neither company makes these consoles for the love of games. Maybe lots of employees are gamers but they all answer to people who aren't.

What gamers want will vary from person to person. Now alot of gamers are enjoying the extra features, who are you to say they shouldn't or tell them thats not what a game console should have?

Like tvs, phones, tablets and such they are blending the lines on what a device can do. But those extras doesn't change the core of the device. a Smart tv is still mainly a tv, a smart phone a phone, ect. The Xbox One a gaming console.

I spend most of my time on the One playing games. BF4, CoD and Forza 5 are packed online by gamers enjoying games.

What I don't understand is why a small hand full of gamers need to have this thrown in their faces. Does Ford need to tell you a car can be driven or do you just know. Does Samsung need to tell you your Smart tv can be used as a tv?

Why does MS need to hammer home that the Xbox One plays games when anyone who isn't stupid knows it plays games? But they may not know about other things that may interest them right?
