I doubt that anything will ever be as iconic as the Metal Gear Solid 2 theme.

I was thinking about it when I made this topic up. Harry Gregson Williams is doing 5 I heard. Honestly it would be a toss up between these two games. I give the nod to Halo, the last level was just right on all levels.

The Halo theme, Halo 3 version 'One Final Effort' and MGS2 opening theme are iconic in gaming from how I see it, no other game can match up to that so far in epic terms.

One Final Effort, boarding the Scarbs via Hornet dropoff and blowing them up, most epic part of any game I've ever played. Nothing was more awesome than the Elites, Humans, and Flood coming together to kill Truth, and the music made it.

I played that section over and over, using the Hornets, taking out the legs, boarding from a Hornet jump or abandoning the Hornet altogether. It was a kick ass moment, that is up there with the Warthog runs for me.

Cool beans, are you all in your 20s/30s for everyone who has posted so far? Where's the younger people, want to know your thoughts, what game song is stuck in your head. I was 6 when the SNES launched so i don't remember the older ones as much cept for a few iconic Mario themes. Never was to impressed with N64, do remember the snow levels song in mario (loved the penguin race)

I'm going to be honest, never played OOT all the way through, just Twlight. I played parts of OOT and MM at a friends, MM was creeepy as a kid.

That's the Song of Storms, the guy with the instrument plays it in the windmill in Karariko Village.

The Halo 3 announcement is hard to beat. Along with a lot of Final Fantasy tracks.

So many great soundtracks in gaming... MGS, Halo, Final Fantasy, Tales of Vesperia, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Elder Scrolls, Chrono saga... for some reason, video game music has trumped soundtracks of any sort so handily for the past 17 or so years.

It's so hard to pick just one song or album from that grouping though... on one hand you have titans in At Zanarkand and One Winged Angel (and so many others in the FF saga let's be honest... Roses of May for crying out loud), the theme in MGS2 I still hum randomly, the Suicide Mission/End Run of Mass Effect 2 still have that power despite the ending to 3, and the retooted theme from game to game in the Elder Scrolls franchise..... really, I'd be hard pressed to say one of those trumps the rest.
