I really dont' see what's clever about it. Even at GameStop you could get more than $100 for either the 360 or PS3.

How naive. Money is not the main point here, it's a PR stunt. And no, you can't get $100 for those at GameStop, call one right now and they'll straight up tell you

Though they could trade in their 360 and get $100 off too. But I see what they did here lol. It's sorta clever :P Most people are keeping their ps3/360 though ahah

Best Buy offered the same deal at the launch of the generation and again just recently. I know, because I traded in my 60GB 360 sans hdd and got $100 for it on 11/21/13.

Generating revenue is what Microsoft is in business for. If they have to take an $81 hit on a console sale to get a customer who will spend more than that over the life of the product, why wouldn't they explore every way to do so?

Sony should be doing this as well since they, as a company, actually need to find ways to generate revenue a lot more than Microsoft does, especially now that they can't borrow any because the corporate credit is so bad.

ALL games should have a Single Player mode. I can always guarantee I want to play when I turn on my system. I can't guarantee others will at the same time.

On the flip side though, their console costs less and does it's primary function unarguably better, and it's poised to capture the position of market leader. Neither if these companies are sweating bullets right now, I'd think.
