3.6 million within a few months is impressive and so is 5.6 million. The Wii U hit 3.6 million after 7 months. The Wii U struggled because it lacked games after its release year. I couldn't find any system sellers at all.

Games that are probably worth mentioning in 2013 for the Wii U are:

MH3U
New Super Luigi U
Rayman Legends
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
Pikmin 3
The Wonderful 101

To me, those don't look like system sellers. Rayman Legends lost it's exclusivity, Wind Waker is a HD remake of a game from 2 generations ago. NSLU is pretty much a skin of NSMBU. MH3U is a solid game, but is just an expansion to MHTri on the Wii or a port of the 3DS version. Pikmin 3 and The Wonderful 101 are probably the only games that might have sold systems. Between June and September, it sold 600k when the last 3 games I list were released. It managed to pick itself up a bit at the end of the year most likely due to the Christmas holidays.

The Wii U isn't getting as much support as the X1 and PS4. It didn't get any version of Tomb Raider, it's not getting Thief, MGSV: Ground Zeroes, The Elder Scrolls Online, Destiny, Dragon Age 3, Scivelation, The Crew, The Division, Dying Light, Mad Max, Shadow of Mordor, The Evil Within, The Witcher 3, Wolfenstein, SW: Battlefront, Cyberpunk 2077, Whore of the Orient, Evolve, Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts III, Lords of the Fallen, MGSV: The Phantom Pain, Mirror's Edge 2, and probably many more.

Xbox One sales are more likely at 3.3 million at best. X1 sold 3 million in 2013, we have the NPD number at 141k and we know Xbox brand makes 60/70% of its sales in US.

X1 is outpacing X360 only in USA.

Don't get all cozy with the "but we haven't released in all the markets yet" argument.

Xbone is already out in every country that provides them meaningful sales (basically USA and the UK) . The countries they haven't launched in will only account for thousands, maybe tens of thousand of sales. We are talking about small European countries, South America, etc. Its not like you are going to get even one million more consoles sold in these countries.

Just face it, there isn't a single argument/battle/whatever where MS comes out on top.

They lose the price war, they lose the power war, they are losing the sales in their own home turf which was the shining star where they previously dominated, they are a laughable also-ran virtually every other country where Sony conosles are the standard, they lose on virtually every high end third party release- where its apparent there will always be something deficient- worse framerate, lower resolution, worse textures, depth of field, etc. and they lose the first party software game where they basically ride one, maybe two blockbuster pony (halo/gears), and those franchieses are both aging and wavering considerably.

Yes, they sold 3 million so far, but thats the early adopter launch units that were always going to sell. And PS4 managed to sell over a million more during that period. Now the post holiday January data just saw an awfully small increase on Xbone sales where PS4 basically grew another million sold. Finally, once ps4 launches in Japan, you'll add another instant million sold, and a market that will provide another sizable and steady stream of sales thereafter.

The market has changed and the tide has turned. Every move MS had made since the E3 conference has been reactionary to what Sony has been doing (and in reaction to their own outraged fans). They simply are not leading a thing where this new generation is concerned. Things are looking bad for MS, indeed.

There's no spin here. Just facts. Like how the PS4 is selling better than X1. And just like how it's still 13 countries vs 48.

There's nothing to spin.

The fact that people aren't finding PS4's and giving the impression they are "sold out everywhere" is because Sony is shifting units around to other markets to supply the demand.

It's brilliant marketing - some they sorely needed - because word-of-mouth will travel faster than direct advertising.

5.3M divided into 48 countries is an average of about 110,416 per region

In contrast, the Xbox One is still only available in 13 regions, which Microsoft promised consumers they would be able to keep up with demand. This gives the perception in the public eye that the Xbox isn't selling as well because they can easily go to the nearest store and find one.

Still, since an exact figure isn't readily available, using the 3.6M number:

3.6M divided into 13 countries is an average of about 276,923 per region.

tl;dr - Both systems are selling great, the method of distribution skews perception and as we all know: perception is reality.

Ummm.... It does not work that way, but thanks for playing.

In reality, some markets are weighed more than others.

FACT PS4 is outselling XB1 in the US, Australia, UK, and pretty much everywhere else.

PS4 is still outselling the Xbone in every venue where they both are present in. The biggest of which being the USA. And they could be releasing systems in a country where most people can't even afford, then and end up making their sales from the biggest countries anyway. Your point is moot.
