PS2 had all the games and was widely considered one of the best consoles of all time. So no, having 2 console manufacturers doesn't magically make gaming better.

Well here is a good example. Both companies were considering always online DRM. Sony was just smart at let Microsoft give the news about it first. If Microsoft had no competition they could have freely went through with that plan without real consequences. Also you're right, i really did enjoy a ton of games on the ps2 at the time.

I would like to believe the outcome would have turned out the same with DRM though. I would imagine people wouldn't just lie there and take, I would like to believe that the uproar and cost of sales would have forced MS to abandon that idea even if they had no competition.

Maybe Wii U would have been the king this gen O_o

TC if you want all current gen consoles to keep close to the competition then you can't say I want both systems, seeing that they're three systems along with the two portable consoles.

You do have a point. But in all honesty i actually forget that nintendo even exists anymore. I don't know a single person that owns one personally. That being said, it would be nice if it was on par with the other consoles, but the market it goes for is just so different.

I don't think the power really matters, as long as they can still bring out good games for the console.

I agree good games can be made without a ton of power. I would prefer gameplay being the main focus and try to get graphics on par once excellent gameplay is out of the way. That being said, if Nintendo would make games i would be interested in i would buy that console. But for the multi-plats i don't think it is worth it, and sadly their are no exclusives that i know of that i would want.

At the time being, Nintendo has been the worst for mutiplatform games and most 3rd party games, but still have good exclusives on their consoles, but not interesting people such as yourself. For me though they have games I want but sadly I can only get the ones out for the 3DS due to not having a Wii U yet. Games such as Bayonetta 2 and Mario Kart 8, but they aren't out yet.

Ha, i wish i had your optimism about it. But i think if they were the only option people would have eventually just accepted it, despite initial rage. Especially around the time they would stop supporting the xbox 360 then people wouldn't have had a choice. In this way we should thank sony, even though they were thinking about it also, but they allowed things to progress in a smart way that made them look good and make Microsoft backtrack.

I don't really care for microsoft's consumer practices, but i like the console and playing games.

I beg to differ, I remember ps made a device you plugged in the back of your ps2 to go online. Midnight club 3 supported it at the time I think and it was obviously a wired connection.

Man I needed a good laugh today. Online gaming and Microsoft being first, along with the single most overrated game on the planet.
