Dumb question about gaming headset

Never bought a gaming headset. So I know this is a stupid question. Just wondering does sound comes from the tv also when using headsets or do you need to mute the tv etc. how does it work.

Also if I buy the adapter can I use it with any headset. Being the Dr. Dre Beats or Street by 50 ( don't have them, but they are one of the more popular examples, I see people always using) or any other headphones.

Thanks in advanced

I can't attest to how things work generally. I have a pair of Astro A40s and the Astro Mix Amp: both the game sound and the voice chat come through the headset and you can adjust the volume of both the game chat and the game sounds. So, when using the headset, I usually turn off my surround sound or mute the tv since my optical cable is going straight into the xbox.

Hope this helps!

ok, so sounds comes also from the tv, you need to mute it or turn the volume down.

My TV has an option to play through speakers or audio system so that was fine. But now that I play on a monitor I just mute the monitor.
