Remember how the original Xbox was supposed to be upgraded with a chip?

Anyone remember that? When the first Xbox was released everyone was convinced that whenever the next generation of consoles (after the Xbox, PS2 era) came out they could just take their old Xbox and install a chip that would turn it into a next gen gaming machine?

Well apparently now the Xbox One doesn't need a chip, now all it needs is a Direct X upgrade!

Trying too hard to grab at nothing.

I've been playing on the Xbox since the OG and never even heard of this rumor.

Might have been part of some stupid talk on a forum, just because it was essentially a PC in a box, people just assumed you could swap the cpu (as part of DIY mod), but there was no official publication of this rumor or even hint of it from MS, to my knowledge, that the system would ever be upgradable.
