The human eye is incapable of reliably distinguishing any detail finer than 720p

sorry TC science can't convince these people otherwise.

Some of these guys really believe this to be true. What a coincidence that 720p just happens to be the resolution that "the human eye tops out at". This crosses the brand loyalty line and jumps head first into brain dead ignorance.

It all depends on the size of the display.

If we take a 40" display at 720p (which looks great in and of itself), the diminishing returns you're going to get by squeezing a 4K resolution in there is pretty insignificant.

Can it be "distinguished"? Probably, but the difference not even close to the realm of hyperbole some are making it out to be.....which "conveniently" can be attributed to the fact the PS is running some games at a higher resolution.

not everyone is gaming on a poverty 24" LCD TV. TS's article doesn't factor in screen size/viewing distance. So either you're uneducated or trolling, which one is it? ....maybe both/

Case in point. Ridiculous hyperbole.

I wonder if those acting as if as though there is some monumental difference between 720p and 1080p (or even 4K) on the average display most here likely have (40-ish) think they sound any more credible than those acting as if there is no difference at all?

They don't....they sound equally ridiculous IMHO.

50" tv, sit 5 feet away. Never used the word monumental. It is without question a noticeable difference.

You're not the only one ITT exaggerating to make their point (some to cartoonist proportions).

I'd agree with you that at 50" from 5' away there is a "noticeable" difference, but its not the kind of difference that some are trying to play it up to be IMHO.

You lose acuity on a 50" screen at about 7-8 feet just like that is saying.

Now this doesn't mean everyone won't be able to tell the difference, its just really saying you lose acuity after a certain distance so the difference in resolution will be lost due to this. There is a reason we measure vision the way we do.

Its kinda nonsense because yea if you sit miles away from your television of course you're going to lose acuity...

Not trying to imply it is similar to the difference between SD and HD, however I believe it is significant enough that I wouldn't need two tvs side by side to notice the difference.
