In terms of story, I love Metal Gear Solid even with all its "contrivances and convolutions."

Splinter Cell used to be the better game, but after Chaos Theory I would say its reign ended quite abruptly, especially Conviction... Jesus that game was a terrible Splinter Cell/stealth one. Ugh. At least Metal Gear Solid has been relatively consistent with regards to its gameplay quality.

Splinter cell. The only good metal gear was mgs1. Stealth mechanics are also without a doubt better on splinter cell. Snake can hold 10 guns and a cardboard box in his back pocket. It's dumb

Splinter Cell
No one should buy MGSV: Ground Zeroes, don't support Konami and their greedy ways.

on a game by game bases--SC
as a whole series--MGS

in terms of mechanics and being a stealth game, SC is a just a smoother experience and even as an action game Conviction and Blacklist stand ahead of MGS4 or PW, tho GZ(and most likely 5) is a step in the right direction. MGS' problem is that it has too many systems in place to the point where you start to struggle with its controls and you feel like you dont have complete control over any single situation. The camera up until mgs3's revision(even then it was a bit wonky) didnt help either. However because of MGS's story and continuation MGS series tends to be a more satisfying expereince as a whole. BUT with MGS5's new controls and its sheer amazing attention to details and mechanics it could potentially be the best stealth game over either series.
Currently playing: Darksiders - MGS5: Ground Zeros - Dark Souls 2

Gameplay and graphics age, but art style, characters and story don't.

For that reason I'd say MGS wins easily. I can replay those every year, but the original Splinter Cells are starting to feel dated.
My sig. Please don't mark it as being offensive.

What's up with all the Splinter Cell love lately, I didn't think many people cared for those games. They've always been quite under the radar...

People are really saying Splinter Cell? It doesn't hold a candle to Metal Gear.
