More PR nonsense, you'd have thought they'd have learnt their lesson by now.

AMD, Nvidia, Epic Games, Microsoft and everyone else all have the same PR?

The Difference between Consoles and PC's
this is nonsense for the consoles but makes a lot of sense for PC games.

Funny how two of those companies are pushing for far more support of OpenGL than DirectX in the PC scene. (Which will flow over to consoles eventually) This whole DirectX 12 seems like a reactionary measure against more OpenGL adoption and Mantle. Going to be interesting and fun to see DirectX get pushed aside more and more on the PC front.

DirectX should've died a long time ago, it adopted anything OpenGL did, the only innovation is brought was with DirectX 11.2 tiled resources, i've been told on openGL that it uses its own version of tiled resources from ages ago but it doesn't make that much of a difference not like the hype MS gave it.. "could be a marketing scheme for the X-1"

I'm surprised to see you still pontificating on issues related to APIs as you have clearly been shown to be clueless in such matters. This contribution only deepens our confidence in your ineptitude. Feel free to post such reassuring blabber on the PS4 boards, but it's not going to go unchallenged here. Anyone who paid attention to yesterday's presser or took the time to read about it knows DX12 is not a kneejerk move on MS' part.

Its not a "Kneejerk" move, i assure you its not.. just for the pc. for the xbox it doesn't make sense, because it already uses things like this.

Before the Xbox released and any game information was leaked the Xbox One was supposed to be able to play games at 1080p @ 60 FPS. Take this with a grain of salt people.

It already does that though.

Very few are native tho. Huge difference there that most will deny.

So you agree it already does it. You also agree you have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to game development by not understanding every game could be 1080p 60fps if the developer gave resources for that purpose thus sacrificing elsewhere.

You should also check out the early dev kits vs updates and then look at how optimization will continue to improve over the years.

So somehow changing graphics API will make the card faster?

No . . . no it won't .

This is the same bs as the magic "cloud".

So, could anyone possibly explain what this update will do to a less technologically savvy person?

It will give developers some new programming tools to build games with. What this will mean for improvements to the games made with it?? We just have to wait and see.

Truth is these sort of API improvements really just matter to devs, Speculation by the general public is usually way off base and completely uninformed opinions. Most actual professional programmers would not know to much about this stuff because it is a very specific field of programming.

Also I would say as with all things the tools are only as good as the people using them. For example what RockStar was able to achieve on the X360 and PS3 with their GTA series I think was very impressive. Many other devs that made similar types of games were not able to achieve similar performance.

It was meant to be able to run all games 1080P 60 FPS and some native games at 4K.. it couldn't even reach the first step, how will it reach a step that require at the very least 4 times the power?

From Phil Spencer:
"DX12 will have impact on XBOX One games written for DX12. Some DX12 features are already in XBOX One but full DX12 coming."

Check out what the current API for X1 is and this will make more sense.

It's like there's the group of people that claim "1080p 60 fps for everything always"

and everyone else to attempts to give a realistic explanation is a "lol sad sony pony"

Both consoles are going to be optimized, not sure why people are acting like the PlayStation 4 is just going to be the same while the Xbox 1 continues to be optimized.
