help with sound settings

So I really don't know much about sound. I do have a sound bar, but the sound bar is connected to my tv (guess it isn't the best choice). This isn't my model, mine is older, probably cheaper also, but so you can have an idea.

But I can only put it on stereo uncompressed (probably because it is hook to the tv). I also bought the polk 4 shots, and they sound great, I have done some test with headphones test like this one:

I they do pretty solid, but when using on xbox one they don't shine as much to me. First of all when I crank the volume up I can have it at max and it doesn't seem loud enough, also with some games the sounds comes up strange, but I'm guessing its my fault with a wrong setting or something.

So someone with more experience in this subject that can help me out, would be gladly appreciated. :)

I don't know a lot about sound, but since I run my sound through X42 headphones from time to time I have to use optical cables. I run the X1 audio through the headset box and into my sound bar outputting 5.1 dolby. X1 is still plugged into the TV through HDMI, I just mute the TV.

That said I'm sure someone else has a better setup then I, but I can't justify the money needed for a home theatre receiver
