is this the fastest price drop in console history?

It's not a price drop. It's a discount. I know GameFAQs users have a hard time distinguishing between the two - I frequent the Wii U and Vita boards - but you can't change the facts.

Of course, it's entirely possible - likely, even - that the Xbox One will receive a price drop soon. If that occurs before May, then it sets the record for fastest price drop.

Which brings up your actual question. When the Wii U had its own price drop, similar topics were made on that board (calling it "unprecedented", etc.), so I did some research and managed to find when the price drops actually occurred:

Enigma149 posted a very long time ago...
N64 - 6 months ($50)
GCN - 6 months ($100)
Xbox - 6 months ($100)
PS1 - 8 months ($100)
PS3 - 8 months ($100)
Xbox 360 - 9 months ($20 or $50, depending upon model)
Wii U - 10 months ($50)
Dreamcast - 11 months ($50)
Saturn - 12 months ($200)
PS2 - 19 months ($100)
Wii - 34 months ($100)

[...]

I'm also going to apologize for saying last week the PS3's price cut was, at the time, unprecedented, and that the only price cut to happen faster was the 3DS's. The 3DS's actually took place slightly later in the system's lifespan, and the PS3's price cut is, clearly, not unprecedented.

Looking at the chart, if the Xbox One gets an official price cut during May, it will tie with the N64, Gamecube, and Xbox for fastest price drop. If it happens in April (or March), it will beat it.

I should point out that the 3DS's price drop relative to its release in the US was announced sooner than any other price drop in console history, at 123 days into the system's life (relative to its Japanese release, however, it happened much later). By sheer cosmic coincidence, this is the exact same duration as the Xbox One's release to today.

the Wii U didn't even have a sale as quickly as xbone has had...

So much desperation to get these to sell that they have to price drop price drops over price drops and still struggle to sell them.

Actually, it had sales quite early on. This chart refers to price drops. Remember - the Xbox One hasn't had a price drop.

The original point behind that chart was to debunk the notion that price drops reflect console performance and consoles with price drops never succeed.

Yes, the GCN, 360, and Xbox didn't sell very well and had the early price drops, but the 360 had a price drop before the Wii U did, yet the system was selling (and continued to sell) very well. The PS1 dropped even earlier. The Saturn, a complete and total failure, didn't have a price drop until a year after release. The 3DS turned its fortunes around with an unprecedented price drop, while the Dreamcast could not.

Hmmm... with a price drop so early, won't people just say "Hey if they drop it this soon, why can't I just wait a little longer for them to drop it again?"

I mean another 4 months isn't all that bad, and in September a bunch of new PS/360 games will be out.

Sale, not -

You know what? Forget it. I give up.

Its too early in the console life cycle with them bundling one of their biggest game this year, with the price cuts here and in the uk. It seems very desperate.
Indeed. I'm guessing that 3 to 1 margin in PS4's favor is rightly rattling Microsoft's confidence.

This turn of events mirrors Nintendo's drop last year, only Microsoft's drop is even earlier.
The days of becoming an early adopter are proving to be less and less beneficial with each new hardware launch.

Lol two Playstation fanboys agreeing with each other.

And if it was 3-1 then wouldn't Sony of sold atleast 9million ps3s and ms on 3 million x1s?

And we know those figures aren't right.

How am I a fanboy? I dont even own a PS4, what would be a purpose being a fanboy and not even owning the console!!
A little late I know, but the thing about Tyronelio that I'm quickly understanding is that his/her best explanation for XBO negativity is to bleat "lol fanboy". S/he can't possibly imagine someone owning an XBO and criticizing Microsoft.

I don't see how a $50 price drop shows desperation. Maybe if the price drop was $100.

If Sony cut its price in half, there'd be "wow, Sony loves consumers!" going around on GameFAQs like the black plague. MS going bankrupt is about as likely as zombie Hitler rising up to conquer Earth. They're just realizing that making people pay $100 for the Kinect was a bad idea.

That turned out to not be a thing. It's a $20 off sale right now:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00CMQTVUA?tag=cheapassgam08-20

I wonder if Amazon will honor the purchases. I know most companies don't when they make an error like this, though I'm not sure what Amazon's policy is.

***EDIT***
Actually, the code might still work. I've heard it's dead, and the price is showing up again, but I haven't tried it myself. That probably means it's going away soon, if it was an error, so best grab it now if you want it.
