MS will not allow cross platform play for War Thunder on the PC and XB1

Why not? Greed? You would think MS would want as many games as possible for the XB1. Way to go MS for not fully supporting the XB1.

MS has flip flopping idiots running things.

"The Xbox One is technically capable of supporting cross-platform play, but Microsoft is not currently allowing it, according to War Thunder developer Gaijin Entertainment CEO Anton Yudintsev.

"Microsoft is not allowing cross-play completely; which means [War Thunder] cannot be on Xbox One," Yudintsev told GameSpot at GDC last week in San Francisco.

Why would Microsoft block cross-platform play? According to Yudintsev, Microsoft needs to certify game servers as a means to ensure a "good experience" for all players. This isn't possible under the current circumstances, Yudintsev said.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer said previously that cross-platform play between Xbox One and PC "makes sense," teasing that he's "not allowed to leak things," suggesting this feature may actually be in the works. We've reached out to a Microsoft representative for a further comment.

Cross-platform play is vital for a game like War Thunder because the install base of new consoles like the Xbox One and PS4 is too small for players to have an enjoyable experience, Yudintsev said.

how dare MS want to ensure their paying customers have a good experience online.... if they can't ensure their paying customers have stable servers than they shouldn't allow that game to have cross platform multiplayer.

If anything, it probably has to do with the PC version not using the same servers as the One version will. Microsoft can't guarantee what will happen on servers they don't own, so they just flat out don't allow it.

Makes sense in a way, if you think about Microsoft wanting to make damn sure they offer the best experience possible.

Whats wrong with MS providing servers for XB1 use on this game? We don't have enough games as it is and this is an example of MS not seeming to care.

if you want cross platform games than Xbox couldn't provide the servers or else the PC people wouldn't be able to play on them. Do you see how that works? I told you MS wants to ensure their customers have the best possibly experience, if that can't be assured with a crossplatform game than it is what it is.

Well if is cross platform and just people playing PC and XB1 could play together it probably wouldn't be a big deal for MS to provide some server since most PC players would probably be on another MS platform (Windows) but when you add in PS4 players playing cross platform why would MS want to provide servers for the competition? I'd imagine it be a bit of a hassle to go in and program code to allow XB1 players to only play PC and other XB1 players.

The developers may be wanting more control over the servers, and thus would have to roll their own. They could also be using their own servers for the One/PS4 versions, so they didn't have to rewrite everything to make their networking work with new servers.

Except there are already games that don't use Xbox Servers. BF4 comes to mind.

Xbox One servers are already proven to be worse than the competition so far anyhow with how often they have had problems since launch. So much for the best experience possible. When you only have one option, that one option is the only experience, not the best.
