Performance Gap Between Xbox One and PS4 Will Disappear, Says Oddworld Creator

You've already seen it, Ryse released 4 months ago. If they can do that with an exclusive, that just means the hardware is more difficult to develop for when you're having to focus on multiple systems, and things will eventually even out. Like the guy said in the article.
You can't tout that games are easier to make for next gen while pulling this stunt at the same time. Either they're just as complicated as the Cell was for early days of the PS3 or the Kinect so called %10 is holding it back... or some other bs.
Fact is you can't say games are easy to develop but you can't even hit the basic 1080P 60fps...
That should be the bottom for these consoles not just the XBOX One but the PS4 as well which at times struggles to do the most basic thing. We can sit here and make a "i play games not graphics" argument, but it's fair to at least expect something we easily got last gen without much guff.

I'll believe it when I see it...

That.

And this--while Microsoft devs are working away, what do you think Sony devs will be doing (yeah, yeah, based on the news, some of them will be looking for jobs)?

If Sony devs "stand still" and do nothing, MAYBE Microsoft might be able to catch up.

But, with superior hardware and power, my money is on Sony to remain the leader in terms of the best performance and graphics.

And I've got them both and can see the differences very well (comparing multiplats to one another).

Ryse is a horrible example. Small eviroments that aren't interactive, extremely limited animations, and the same handful of reused enemy textures. And on top of that the game was extremely short. Not a good example of a systems capabilities.

Except 360 had the sales lead last gen and 3rd party developers used it as the primary to build their games.
Only doing enough work to port to the ps3, never using the ps3s full power because of extra development costs.

The power was there, Sony exclusives blew everything else out of the water graphically.

This time the ps4 is still more powerful, except it's also the lead platform for 3rd party developers.
They will utilize the power this time because it is easier to program for then the ps3.

Now xbox is the complicated to program for machine, is weaker in hardware and not the lead platform.
Developers will only spend enough time to port, they won't spend extra development costs on the xboxone.

The gap will not close.

The graphically nice games, like Ryse, will only come from 1st party studios for xbox.
3rd party developers will not waste resources or any extra time for xboxone,
just like they never used extra time or resources on the more powerful ps3.
(except xboxone doesn't even have that incentive the ps3 had as it's weaker then ps4)

I could say similar things about Killzone and yet reviewers still called Ryse the best looking console game. It's a fine example until something better comes along.

Thanks for your input but I'm going to believe the dev that's actually worked on the consoles.

Since the dev has come back and said that he was taken out of context and the gap will remain can you apologize for being an idiot?

Right after you apologize for being butthurt over it, lol. How can "Lanning doesn't believe there will be any noticeable differences in performance between the different console versions" be taken out of context? And then you couldn't even provide a link?

Calm down and get back in your stable, pony.

Here's the article and the correction:

Actually that is NOT what he said. I spoke to Lorne afterwards and what he meant when speaking to that guy was that budgets, schedules and perceivable differences would narrow, NOT that the Xbox One performance is improving to align with PS4, that is just physically impossible. The PS4 has MORE COMPUTE units, and faster memory and a whole bunch of things, that would make that physically impossible to happen.

You also might want to avoid this topic:

People there think this is laughably obvious, yet some people in this topic still seem to think differently.
