Saying "Xbox is the most relevant brand" makes you lose all credibility. If he wanted this article to renew faith in the brand he would have addressed the question appropriately. For isntance address the investors wanting to sell the X1 division. Explain why they want to do that and explain why its a bad idea.
All this article is doing is saying a bunch of stuff with edge basically accepting their answers at face value.

The only thing lacking any "credibility" here is apparently your reading comprehension.
The full quote is ".Xbox is maybe the most relevant brand that Microsoft has with consumers today,". He's simply saying that in Microsofts stable of products, the XB brand is the most relevant and with the popularity of tablets over laptops / desktops (running Windows) increasing, I'd say he's probably right.

Windows still has a crushing control of the market. Method is right, blatantly lying in the first sentence is not a good way to reassure people.

Umm, PC sales are way down, so I really don't get your "crushing control of the market" theory. What market would that be? The one that's seeing an all time decline?

First figure out what the **** you're talking about, then get back to me. I'll go ahead and provide you with a link....

http://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2014/01/09/2013-represented-worst-decline-in-pc-markets-history/

http://www.zdnet.com/what-a-surprise-2013-was-a-lousy-year-for-pc-sales-7000025002/

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2068520/idc-pcs-decline-is-far-worse-than-expected.html

This is just another example of anything said by MS being blown out of proportion....taken out of context (and probably more accurate: a failure to even understand the context by some).

From your first article : PC sales sagged to 316 million units overall, and 82.6 million units in the fourth quarter of 2013.

From your second article : Global PC shipments totaled 82.2 million units in the fourth quarter of 2013.

And your third article : IDC expects PC unit sales of about 314.8 million, which is on pair with 2008 sales figures.

Now. Remind me how many Xbox One were sold, 2013 and 2014 combined ?

"PC sales are way down", "What market would that be?" ... talk about a failure to understand context.

The context is that the Xbox brand is (and I quote) " maybe the most relevant brand that Microsoft has with consumers today ."

And he's right.....the PC market is at an all time decline while the XB1 has sold more (despite all its flaws and missteps at launch) then its previous iterations during the same time frame.

PC is trending down while the XB is trending up....its not that difficult to grasp tbqh.

Turn that thing any way you want Evel138 but PC sell _dozens_ more than XB.

U guys realize sony will likely be selling the playstation brand before they go bankrupt right? Sonys stock rating is junk.

Yeah that's exactly what a company facing bankruptcy should do... Sell their profitable divisions... How are you not MS's CEO by now is beyond me

This. Anyone who seriously thinks that either Sony's gonna go bankrupt anytime soon, or thinks that they need PS4 to succeed to keep them afloat are very gullible.

Gaming divisions contribute very small in profitability.

I saw a lot of "might" "maybe" and "could" but no certainty of anything. That link was completely useless.

"...Phil Spencer, doesn't believe..."

As opposed to "stated emphatically."

But I do believe it's interesting to hear what he has to say. Thanks for the post, TC.

And before any panties get twisted up with rustled jimmies, this isn't to say that the Windows PC is irrelevant by any stretch, that just as of today the XB brand is maybe more relevant.....

From the Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary:

relevant
adj
1. connect with what is happening or being discussed

........with an expanding market as of today than the Windows PC with a declining market is.... today .

Again, not extraordinarily complex concepts to grasp IMHO.

You found the definition of a word on the internet *applause*.

Hey, it was relevant in this case.

Dont know if they are going to sell it or not but if they do everyone needs to buy that companies stock no matter what game platform your for. They talked about that on pach attack a while back if gamers could get a large voice in said company we could create the type of products we all dream about.

Kind of like initially selling the PS4 at a loss, right? I guess both companies lack confidence then.

The PS4 was profitable from the get go, but the margin was pretty small, like $17 or something. The Xbone initially had a larger profit margin with its higher price, but with the cut and the free game now, it's a large loss on each console for MS.

They main reason they won't sell it off is because it was recent valued at up to $23 BILLION.

Who has that kind of money?
