I want to play around with the tv stuff, but my wife would never do it. So she doesn't want to hook up tv stuff. But if it can still run normally if the XB1 is off problem solved. --- For I am the Kwisatz Haderach!

No I'm afraid the xbox needs to be turned on for it to work. To get around it, I hooked my cable box's hdmi out to the Xbox and the RCA output straight to my TV so it will work either way.

You can get a Google chromecast and use it. Just use my phone or computer and watch whatever still so she can have cable and you can access tv with a tablet or whatever still. I know I can use Google Chrome and broadcast dish tv through the chromecast if I wanted. --- Xbox one, PS3, Wii Play for the games not the evil corporation, they're all evil in the end.

Goto amazon and get yourself a HDMI switcher, they work automatically so if your xbox is off the signal still goes to your tv. I got one for about $10 so I could keep my dtv box, 360,and x1 hooked up all on two hdmi's. --- "Dont blame me, blame yourself or your God!!" -Delita(Final Fantasy Tactics)
