ok i feel like buying a racing game is a waste, on the other hand games that let you drive/race but have other objectives are more my cup of tea. so the question is this, would i be better off getting nfs rivals or forza 5? i'm more of a casual gamer when it comes to racing but i used to love gran turismo 2...i'm leaning more towards nfs but i want to see what other people think first. thanks.
I prefer NFS more. Forza is simulation racing con controlled courses. NFS Rivals is an open world where you can just drive around and get into races or other events if you want (and of course to advance the game and get new cars).
ALL games should have a Single Player mode. I can always guarantee I want to play when I turn on my system. I can't guarantee others will at the same time.

Very different games tc, from what you said about your preferences you would probably enjoy NFS more.

I have both and they both suck. Forza 5 is a boring tech demo and need for speed rivals is full of bugs and shoddy kinect support that can't be shut off through the game. It sucks that we don't have any good next gen racing games yet.

Go where the games are...

I would go Forza based on the fact you enjoyed GT2.
You can make Forza as arcade as you want it or more simulation.
Really depends if you want closed circuit racing vs more open world arcade..
I personally didn't enjoy NFS, and I havent for many years but that is just me. I have NFS on Ps4 and it just didn't do it for me, Forza 5 Is taking up most of my Xbox gaming.
I hated NFS especially when you're on your way to repair your car and get smashed by another player or cop car and lose all of your points. Some just plain irritating design, I'm also not a fan of the open world aspect.
