Microsoft's next console should be Virtual Reality focused

VR isn't going to take off, AR is where it's at. MS needs to do AR glasses working with the kinect, have your HUD, video chat, Map all appearing off screen, that would be cool.

The only people who think the Xbox brand is "in the gutter" are Sony fanboys who simply latch onto anything they can possibly use against the system to prove that it's a complete and utter disaster.

What you're proposing, however, would be a complete and utter disaster. Why would a successful console manufacturer sell an incredibly expensive system at a massive loss? Do you remember what happened last time a company tried this?

MS got their foot in the door?

Now think about it from the perspective of the company that sold the system...

Who cares? It's an investment not much different than the OG Xbox. Would you rather have Sony and PC lead the VR charge, and have MS playing a game of catch up that they can't possibly win?

Ah, I see where the confusion lies, now.

You see, I was speaking about the PS3. You know, the system put out by a successful hardware manufacturer that cost consumers an arm and a leg and Sony several hundred dollars more? The one that ended up costing them billions of dollars, played a large role in the financial disaster that plagued the company for over half a decade, and nearly cost them their hardware business before a miraculous recovery in 2008?

It's not really the same situation. Sony bet big on Cell and Blu Ray. Development was a pain. It already had an established, cheaper competitor one year prior, with better development environment. They stuffed a PS2 in there which raised cost. The console wasn't going for a new medium like VR. It was simply a bloated console trying to be the end all be all, with a worse GPU than the competition. Sony overplayed their hand after PS1 and PS2.

A MS VR console would be first to the video game market offering a revolutionary experience that simply wouldn't be able to be matched. The PS4 will not be able to offer that same experience.

If they are coming up with a new console, they're probably planning it already. Sony actually begun development of the ps4 as early as 2008 I believe, after the tough start the PS3 endured.

But yeah, if Microsoft bring out a new console, I hope they learn from this generation and create a beast of a machine.
They could have put Sony in a bad spot this gen, but for whatever reason, they held back. Not only will they have to settle for second place (at best), but a distant one at that. Dumb move

What would they name it? Virtually 1080?

"Virtua ON" - - - was a great game.

This premise, on the other hand, is a terrible idea.
