So they're actually bringing DRM back?

This will be great in like 6 years when they start shutting down the cloud servers for old games.

And you can no longer play your single player games.

They won't shut the cloud down. It is used for more than just gaming.

We aren't sure how developers are going to utilize it yet, if it means renting it's use from Microsoft, or having their own, if a game isn't popular enough, no one is going to keep paying for something that isn't going to bring in money after a certain point, It's like used games+.

The servers are free to developers.

Cloud powered is garbage. If it was that easy MMO's would have far better combat than the crap that they do

If you don't have internet, why buy a Xbox One or a PS4?

Such a dumb post by crucial all around.

It has nothing to do with "being poor" or "having no internet." Most people like playing games offline, & not everyone's internet is perfect, nor can people even get internet in rural areas.

Plus only Sony had said that it's up to publishers for DRM (which is exactly the same as PS3's), while Microsoft used to have mandatory DRM for Xbox One.

If you are that broke why even come to this message board?

Hello? Wi-Fi, public libraries, etc? There are plenty of places & ways to get on through the internet if you don't have internet at home.

Another dumb post.

This isn't surprising.

What is going to be fun is when people finally wise up and figure out that cloud, when being used with available tech, is ineffective and a waste of resources.

Microsoft went to implement what is already inevitably coming, Sony held back their plans and let Microsoft reveal its policies then played switcheroo before their reveal.

If you do a little research you will find that previous to the PS4 reveal they had for the patents and rights to what essentially been the same DRM that Microsoft had proposed. So Sony was smart in holding off and letting Microsoft look like the bad guy.

Sony themselves have started moving towards a digital/streaming focus and even said somewhere that they were going to encourage more digital sales by offering more incentives for digital purchases.

All Sony has done is stall the inevitable. Also most people don't realize that even when you have purchased a physical copy of a game, you actually have only purchased a license to the intellctual property on said disc and in the fine print you are required to destroy the game disc if the owning company required you too.

Just because a company has patents, doesn't automatically mean that they will go through with them.

Sony didn't make Microsoft look bad, like they put a gun to their head & told them to go through with it. Microsoft made themselves look bad.

Not really. We own our rights to what we buy. They're saying this to make people forget about owning physical media & to move towards digital.
